Aging these entry level Spater-Veits is very rewarding. What a nose. Smells like a 1er Cru. Wow. Super fragrant. So floral. Gorgeous cherries. Really refined aromas. Just so pretty. Palate is sweet, elegant and juicy. Tangy with mid to early season cherries. Elegant sweet and ripe tannins on the lithe side. Really just a spectacular showing for a wine I sold for less than $20. Remarkable.

May 12th, 2022Superb. Level above “Rotwein” and level below “P.” Screaming mimi of a nose. Gorgeous sour cherry. Vivid and deep. Cranberry. Spice and some flowers. Terrific. Beautiful ripeness and purity. Sappy and lively elegant structure. Delicate tannins. Incredible juicy and such detailed red fruits. Very pure. Insane value. Truly magical. I gotta offer this again. So well made.

Palate is wonderfully balanced and tangy with lovely sweet fruit. Mild tannin and lovely purity. Such a value. Juicy and so lithe yet has good crunch. Terrific persistence.

Such a unique Pinot noir. Super fragrant nose just explodes with cherrified rock dust. You can actually smell the acidity. Perfumey spice too. Crisp and lithe, but with loads of tart cherry fruit and clean, rocky minerality. Almost no tannin. Fantastic summer cook-out PN.

Jul 18th, 2017Fragrant, light, and minerally Pinot. Light sappy cherries, warm baking spice , and pungent minerality in the nose. Lean but very flavorful in the mouth. Some cherry fruit, but lots of savory elements and acids. Good length.

Lovely bright red/blue fruits with just a hint of something medicinal/green (which made me think of Cab Franc from Chinon) that actually works great in this context.

Deep damson aromas, woodland berry, red cherries, herbal in the best possible way, palate is textured and lacey with pure and fresh fruit. This is a killer value.

Nose is cherry, lilacs. A bit penetrating in a good way. As it opens more Burgundian, savory and serious.
Palate is very fresh. Dense mid season cherries. Lingering in a great way. So juicy. Burgundy but with a German twist.
Very distinctive and great. 9.35. Lacks some complexity and density to be truly great but for the price you can’t beat it.
Lovely cherry licorice finish.
An hour in is much better and more serious.
Tannins interfere a bit at this point. They should smooth out in 2-3 years.

Palate is good. Nice fruit. Some vegetal. Like great black cherries. But good juiciness. Well made.
You want this with duck sausages and potatoes. Yup. Would be killer.
