Bottle No. 0226 of a 120 case lot from ultra-boutique winery, Seed. I first tasted this bottling six months ago, when it was still fairly closed—the profile remains unchanged—a heady melange of singed blueberries, black currants, sandalwood, and violets. It has the kind of lightness to it that one would expect from a Nuits St. Georges, not Mendoza. As such, this Malbec Cabernet blend is gracefully bound in fine, supple tannins, with a mineral thread twining bay leaf and green peppercorn. Absolute perfection. 13.7% ABV

One of the wineries I'm involved in—the Seed Red Wine Blend, sent to me for evaluation prior to labeling. 2015 proved to be a cooler year in the Uco Valley, this vintage reflects restraint and poise. A blend of 50% Cabernet, 40% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Franc, still quite young. Emitting smoky boysenberries, black currants, plums, violets, and graphite. The attack is elegant and pure—a core of black fruit, couched in sueded tannins leading into bay leaf, green peppercorn and pretty mineral nuance. A little bit closed now, these are wines that need time to evolve. 13.7% ABV
