Beaumes de Venise Red Rhone Blend
I’ve been critically drinking wine a long time, and I’ll be honest with my personal opinion: climate change has impacted the Southern Rhône more negatively than any other region. This is a decent wine. But it’s kind of lifeless and heavy, like so many SR’s I’ve have in the last 15 years. My cellar contains less and less Southern Rhône each passing year. Maybe younger folks will rate this higher, having not experienced what kind of complexity and balance this region used to be capable of, but in the longer-arc view, I can’t give it more than an 8.6. I feel like I’m picking on this wine unfairly for a lack of quality that speaks more to the region than this wine specifically, and maybe Trump and COVID restrictions have me in a bad mood, but it is what it is.

Aug 23rd, 2020The grenache really dominates this wine on the palate. Smooth BlackBerry, black currant, and a touch of subtle spice. Easy drinking, and crowd pleasing wine that is perfect with or without food.
