Raul Pérez
Ultreia Saint Jacques Mencía
Great entry level Mencia from Raul Perez. Medium bodied, crunchy, earthy, peppery.
Opened up nicely over hours.

Sort of exactly what I wanted right now. Kinda farm funky, totally spicy and black fruited with notes of smoked meat, paprika, burnt rosemary. Really soft on the palate with pure fruit and nice acidity on a long finish. Yum.

Oct 28th, 2020Heady nose of blackberries, jammy purple fruit, brambly and peppery aromas, and then surprisingly lifted on the palate. Sappy with a uniquely Spanish garrigue quality. Refined in its structure and reminiscent of cru Beaujolais in the realm of brouilly or moulin a vent... but at 15 years ago prices. Such a generous wine! Plenty of freshness, spice and raw pleasure to spare.

Sep 12th, 2020Soft velvety tannins, elegant, herbal, earthy. This was very good although I’m not sure I see this producer as the bearded wine messiah that some make him out to be. Maybe I just need to taste through the whole range to really understand all the gushing. @Pooneet Kant we meet again in the reviews lol

Delicious now, it will reward at least a few more years patience. $24.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, January 2021)
