The welcome bubbles for the Downs Club Grand Cru Burgundy evening. Apparently the actual blend is a secret but most of us there including the importer felt that Pinot Noir was in the majority. Very toasty and full bodied with a mineral/saline streak. Rambunctious like the man himself. Jancis used the word “burly”. Great intensity and length - drink now to 2030.

Imagine the aroma when you walk into a bakery, the fresh baked bread. 100 PT wine! Refreshing, elegant and the perfect starter for an amazing lunch with friends!

Very tightly would. Steely and saline. Quite austere right now. Really good fruit and intensity but this will be significantly better with time. Yum

Ripe stone fruit, Meyer lemon curd, with sweet vanilla and buttered toast coming through on the palate and esp finish. Long finish and pronounced intensity.

Very pure and balanced-street side hazelnuts, smoke and saline all come together nicely.

A simply magical 2008 Champagne, the 2008 ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ Champagne is a revelation from this dazzling vintage. The wine entices right away, showing lemon infused biscuit with shades of wild mushroom and baked pear aromatics that all mingle brightly in the glass. The palate shows incredible verve and freshness with a bright sense of effervescence and a silky soft texture. Once on the attack, the palate leads with bright bright lemon zest and green apple tones that collide with mushroom, peat moss and hints of freshly baked brioche. While outstanding now, this really needs another year of bottle age prior to being enjoyed. One thing is certain — the 2008 ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ will be exceedingly long lived. Drink 2020-2035- 96

The ‘08 was more reticent than the ‘06 but still packing a zesty zing with marked freshness. @Joe Lucca
