Sir Winston Churchill Brut Champagne

Great stuff. From mag. Loads of secondary notes. Brioche, dried apricot, a lift of lemon. Lovely freshness and acidity still. Really complex, nutty and vigorous. At a perfect point for my palate and consistently one of the great 96’s

Deep medium gold color. Great nose. Notes of biscuits, kiwi fruit, apple cider and citrus fruit. Nicely integrated fruit and structure in the mouth. With air this really blossomed. At peak and ready to go. Not as good as the 96 tonight though.

Sweet and light. Lemon oil, chalk. Lovely acidity- quite hard edges but fine. Delicious.

Served blind in a white wine glass, this had a medium gold color and no noticeable bubbles. Nice aged white notes including creme brulee, wet stone, mature fruit. Thought this was a Corton Charlie before I tasted it and only then did I discover the light carbonization. At first this was closed and not offering much, but later in the evening the air caused it to expand and overall this was very nice. I would drink these sooner rather than later.

From our cellar. Pure power in need of some relaxation. In my mind, a reference point for champers, not to mention the English royal seal of approval.

Never better than tonight. Still showing lots of stone fruit, acid and energy. In a perfect window. Probably my favorite 96 champagne right now.
