Though from Tuscany, this reminds me more of a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo than anything else. (I think there’s Montepulciano in it, though I don’t know how much.) Highly extracted, the nose is smoky and earthy/minerally, with dark berries in the background. On the palate it’s got low-toned flavors of tree bark and sandstone, with dark berries again in the background. Tannins are prominent but relatively in check and not astringent. Not a bad wine, but not a style I seek out. (Don’t you hate it when they stick someone’s rating on the label?)
