Blood oranges and whole cluster-like aromatics. Some funk. Tannins that you could call rustic. Overall, less austere than the last time I had it, with discernible red fruit that has a character that somehow reminds me of really good California Grenache. This is a whole lot of wine for the money.

A favorite. Putting on weight in bottle; a year ago this was a very lean wine. Reduced balsamic, strawberries, iron, dried lavender, and the smell of dry sandy soil, all wrapped up in some gloriously rustic tannin.

Nice and robust, bold but light enough to match with plenty of dishes.

Very citrusy nose; blood orange, even lemon. There is some juicy, sweet red fruit underneath the young, astringent tannins. This is in need of some time, but I love the way nerello can balance a certain richness with minerality, acid, and structure that isn't quite as formidable as, say, Nebbiolo. I really want to make this in California.

Some of the best from Etna. Nice volcanic crispness.
