At the monthly Downs Club Committee Dinner. A treat to be tasting one of Australia’s best Chardonnays. Pale Lemon in colour. Modern Chardonnay winemaking on show. Notes of struck match sulphides together with ripe grapefruit and citrus. On the palate on the lean side, but with its youth it will fill out with age. A classy Chardonnay which ever way you cut it with a long future. 98 points from James Halliday.

Mount Mary Chardonnay is in the Langtons Excellent Category. Like the Pinot this Chardonnay is built to age and I have had some marvellous aged examples. Mount Mary was James Halliday’s Winery of the Year in Australia last year.

Old school and not ashamed of it.
Deep colour, rich. Good gear.

When opened, delicious
Specially the balance in the sip
Fleshy with great freshness and minerality

This is a delight. Poached stone fruits, honey and a seam of crème brûlée on the nose, some lime and peach on the palate that still has vitality. Finishes long & nutty, with a sweet honey lick.

Nicely complex bouquet and palate. Med weight, good length, just finishes ever so slightly early. Still lovely to drink.

Decanted 30 minutes. The warmer it got the lovelier it got! Great balance and quite long. Hint of oak and some baked apple.

A Burgundy-style Yarra PN with high concentration. Aroma of cranberry and mulberry jam. The palette shows a hint of sweetness while the acidity is not clear enough. The retro-taste is medium and jammy. Not so complicated as those PN of its same price level. Prefer a Cotes de Nuits Village with humbler price tag.

Wonderful wine. Oak; straw, and vaguely barnyard aromas. Palate opens with stone fruit and oak then evolves into a full middle palate. Big and bold but not heavy. Toffee notes linger with oak and citrus notes on the finish. Super long. Changes with every sip.
