Dark Ruby - almost black. Blackberry and herbal notes. Full bodied palate with good concentration and M plus intensity. Rich textural fleshy flavours with that trademark herbaceousness. Finishes with soft persistent tannins. A classy Cabernet by any measure. 2011 was a mixed bag in Australia largely being poor everywhere except in Western Australia and the Hunter Valley. This is the first of 6 bottles.

Moss Wood is a name synonymous with top quality wines and it’s their Cab Sauvs which have a cult like following. And I can see why after trying this sample bottle I was kindly sent from the Moss Wood team. Thank you!

This 2015 was released on the 1st of May 2018. The 2015 vintage was a rather uncanny vintage for Moss Wood as it was so alike to the 2014 vintage by way of similar temperature, rainfall, season length and ripeness.

The majority of the wine is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon however there’s a small hint of Cabernet Franc (4%) and Petit Verdot (1%) in the blend.

So what’s it like? It’s ageing beautifully and I have no doubt it’ll be enjoyed for years to come.

It’s an intoxicating deep purple-red colour in the glass. Dark black and blue berries, cedar wood, vanilla and all spice come through on the nose for me. In the mouth it’s extremely well balanced. It’s both bold and elegant at the same time with a nice loooong finish. Simply beautiful to drink 😍

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Red wine? It’s almost black!! Amazing colour with super subtle yet rich flavours and great length. An absolute gem. Some more time in the cellar should see this just get better.

Complex and amazing. Cassis and smoky wooden almost tobacco like flavours. Aired for two hours but still developed nicely as more time went on.

Very nice wine. Short decant. Lighter color than I was expecting as it was medium with brownish edges. Nose of stewed fruit and chocolate. Lovely texture and very approachable. Resembles an Amarone. Medium finish.

This one was not as good as expected, but it wasn’t half bad.

Blessed enough to try the 2014 vintage. Well done again!

So young and probably a little closed because of it but this has everything you could ask for, fruit, structure, cascading flavours that change and evolve, balance and length. Give it at least 5 more years but it should be incredible.
