It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium intensity.

Nice nose with red fruits, light oak, spices, chocolates, licorice and peppercorn.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with red currants, cherries, raspberries, earth, black coffee, bitter vegetables, light oak, spices, dark chocolates and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and cranberries.

This Australian Merlot is drinking nicely now. Earthier than I expected it to be. Feels like a blend of new and old world.

Showing a soft and plush mouthfeel, and a bit bitter once it opens up.

Easy drinking and better after a couple of hours of airtime. Changes every 30 minutes in the decanter. Interesting.

I had a few different vintages years ago, and it is a completely different wine today.

Aged in American oak barrels. Vegan.

15.5% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$30.

I've read about the Mollydooker wines but this is my first time trying one I've bought. Immediate nose of cocoa and espresso and dark chocolate with some wet forest floor and cooked blueberries. The palate is more along the lines of verifying the nose but is super hot in your throat, even when paired with food. Just saw some sediment in my glass as I finished it, which always brings down the score for me. Worthwhile if found for a good price, but not for searching out.

Typical 'Molly' - a massive mouthful of fruit that disguises it's 16%. Lasted well decanted for 1.5 hrs and gave a lot of simple pleasure.

Choc, espresso, blueberries. Indicative of fruit characteristics throughout the range. Little more body than your average merlot, subtle underlying spice. $28: can not go wrong!

Powerful bite. Not sure / maybe it will grow on me after the first glass. Warming my throat for sure!

One of my favorites. Have loved all the varieties from this vineyard. Check them out.

Big juicy red nicely complimented the lamb we served. Much more complex than an average merlot, with a brightness- almost some tartness- at the start and an easy, smooth finish that's pleasant to those of us who love dry reds.
