Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.

For being a Mollydooker, I was surprised at how nimble this was. Sure, it was a hedonistic and rich style, but it didn’t seem too hot or flabby. Lots of cocoa powder, freshly dipped chocolate covered black cherries, savory cherry tobacco leaves and finished with a note of Andes mint. I called this Syrah with American oak. Thanks

Sipping Fine Wine

Mollydooker (Aussie for left-hander) Wines was established in 2005 by Sarah and Sparky Marquis. Dark color with big dark berry fruit nose adding sweet spice and cedar. On the palate this is a big wine with complex berry flavors, layered with cacao, oak and creamy vanilla. Gripping tannins give way to peasant mouthfeel, full-bodied, lingering, ending with a spicy bite. Nice!

Still big and hold with tart black fruits, but much smoother than The Boxer.

I don’t often drink Shiraz but when I do.... Seriously though this is not hot or over the top (despite the 16.5% ABV). Fruit forward for sure, but with plenty of depth to counter a pork shank.

Dark inky color. Hugs the glass. Nice fruit in the nose. I taste a lot of berry with a very smooth finish. High alcohol but oh so smooth.

Friday is so close I can almost smell it! Chilling with my Brown eyed boy. This was shaken, decanted, and enjoyed with every sip.
