Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz

Love these “Blue Boys.” Mollydooker (Aussie for left-hander) Wines was established in 2005 by Sarah and Sparky Marquis. Dark Ruby with dark berry fruit aromas adding sweet spice and cedar. On the palate this wine has complex flavors of blackberry and blueberry with licorice, cacao, oak and vanilla. Fine dusty tannins, peasant mouthfeel (16% Alcohol), full-bodied, long ending with a nice spicy finish. Aging well, good now, has room to run over short term.

Refer to previous Delectable Notes 5 years ago in July 2018. No changes to now. Black fruits - currant and berry. Rich, mouth filling, full bodied and delicious - the sort of wine that created a big profile for Mollydooker in the USA. The 16%ABV is not apparent. As I said in the previous note, definitely a crowd pleaser and a great wine on a cold night. One bottle left which I will probably have next winter.

Grippy tight tannins, starting to ease, gives way to peasant mouthfeel, full-bodied, long ending with a nice spicy bite. Aging well!

Very dark ruby in colour. Aromas of mocha oak, raspberry and liquorice. Rich and plush textures on the full bodied palate. Ripe and generous - plum cake notes. An absolute crowd pleaser. Probably my favourite of the Mollydooker Cuvées. Carnival of Love and the Velvet Glove particularly are too concentrated for my palate.

Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.

For being a Mollydooker, I was surprised at how nimble this was. Sure, it was a hedonistic and rich style, but it didn’t seem too hot or flabby. Lots of cocoa powder, freshly dipped chocolate covered black cherries, savory cherry tobacco leaves and finished with a note of Andes mint. I called this Syrah with American oak. Thanks @Ryan G

If you’re going to drink a 16.5% alc wine, this is the way to go. Certainly intense, concentrated, extracted yet no burn on the finish, well balanced, smoooth. It is very good for what it is

I should have been more patient.

Bold and powerful. I imagine this was a complete fruit bomb originally, but after 7 years, this has softened up and become quite enjoyable.
