Modus Bibendi Terre Siciliane Nero d'Avola

So much NdA is just soft and fruity and quaffable, but not so interesting. This, OTOH, has a depth and complexity that compels additional focus. Elevated acidy and no lack of tannin allow all the beautiful fruit and earth notes top find their own space within the structure. Best NdA I've had in ages.

Interestingly this wine is have in chestnut barrels rather than oak. Gives it a hint of sweetness. Cherries and macerated strawberries. Midweight and floral. An attractive wine. Serve cool!

Quirky stuff. Bitter cherries, overripe strawberry, violets, sweet herbs and varnished wood. Aged in chestnut barrels; not something that I thought would be so distinctively noticable, but it really rings through. The wine is technically dry but the nuttiness is sweet and reminds me of green lumber. I think liked this wine? 🍒🌰🤔

Super interesting. Mid-weight, mid-tannins, stewed cherries, strawberry fruit leather, cigar tobacco, eucalyptus, citrus peel, sandy earth… and I swear I taste chestnuts. Really nice.
