Brilliant wine - understated, elegant - pure franc character without overblown stature - and yet not a 'twiggy' wine. Top 2 or three of 29 tasted. #francly @leskup

Great texture and mouthfeel, could wish for more acidity and a bit lower alcohol. Delicious.

Ol' company. Super concentrated and rich but lacking a bit on the whole CF thing.

3 magnums from Merryvale. Such a treat.

First up is the 2016 CF Napa Valley. This is a powerful CF compared to the 2015 I drank not long ago, displaying a lot more dark fruits and creme de cassis. Rich, deep, and balanced. Not as charismatic as the ‘15 in terms of displaying varietal characters. Immensely enjoyable still.

I have drank my fare share of cab from the producer, but this is the first time I tasted their Cab Franc. And it really blew me away.

The nose is fragrant with raspberry and plum accented with savory spices and sweet tobacco. The harmonious palate is bright and gentle, showcasing deep delicious candied red and black fruits over complexity. Velvety tannins.

Magnum.

I love Merryvale and was happy to find this in my wine fridge as I thought we had drank it all. Needed a bit to open up - probably should have decanted it, but it opened nicely in the glass. Ended up drinking this without food on a movie night and it made the crappy movie I watched much more enjoyable 🙂
