Last night's wine I opened was the 2018 Mer Soleil Santa Lucia Highlands Reserve Pinot Noir Monterey County California. Winemaker Chuck Wagner.

The nose has notes of cherry, raspberry, plum, all spice, darjeerli g tea, oak and forest floor.

On the palate is dark cherry, raspberry, plum, all spice, vanilla, oakand earth.

This wine is medium bodied and a creamy mouthfeel with medium to medium + acidity and medium fine tannins with a medium to long dark fruit finish. The week has just started and we all received bad news over the weekend of a masterful and astounding winemakers passing. Jim Clendenon of Au Bon Climat had touched many lives with his wonderful and masterful wines. Jim will be surely missed! I truly wish his legacy will live on. Jim was only 68 years young. Have a wonderful week and remember life throws us all curveballs at any time. Please stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Mer Soleil named after the two forces of nature – “the sea and sun.” Grapes sourced from vineyards in the southern and middle areas of Santa Lucia Highlands, deep Ruby with youthful aromas of red fruits and smoky pepper spice. On the palate flavors of cranberry, raspberry and cherry with toasty baking spice, savory, good mouthfeel. Medium+ finish, fine tannins well integrated ending with fruit and a toasty spice character.

Spicy scent—like cinnamon?! Nice, drinkable, but little after-taste. I would buy again: $36 (on sale for $20)
