Ever so g-durn yummilicious? Also I just realized why in two recent blind tasting practices I thought it was Sangiovese: garnet color and balsamic vinegar af. This is a smidge raisinated and the tannins would (now) keep me from guessing Italy and DAMN please tell me your favorite thing to pair with rioja I’m plotting a vegetarian sub.

Dark ruby in color with a very wide reddish rim and medium intensity.

Fruity nose of raspberries, cherries, wood, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, tobacco, earth, light vegetables, wet leaves and coffee.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Very dry on the palate with cherries, raspberries, wood, licorice, spices, earth, wet leaves, bitter vegetables, herbs, eucalyptus, coffee, forest floor, pencil lead, peppercorn and tobacco.

Medium minus on the finish with firm tannins and tangy pomegranates.

This nice Rioja is enjoyable now, but would be much better in a few years. Not fully balanced yet, with lots of earth and bitter vegetable notes.

A little tart for my taste. A good food wine, though.

Needs an hour in a decanter to open up properly and show some tannins.

I paired it with Spanish tapas.

14% alcohol by volume.

87 points.

$20.

Sipping Fine Wine

In 1858, it was the first winery in Rioja to produce wines using the Bordeaux method. In 1972, it was the first to promote the Rueda Designation of Origin. A blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo. Spicy complex aromas of ripe dark berry fruit. On the palate, Berry fruits with sweet and peppery spice and toasty oak. Fine tannins, nice balance and good length ending with slight earthy tones.

On the nose, leather, rose petals and cherries. In the mouth, bitter cherries, dried apricots and leather. Slightly hollow mid-palate. Medium-long finish. Great QPR and very correct.

16/20 (90/100)

Сладковато, чуть табачно, животное, битум, корица, сладкая вишня. Очень симпатично, не очень сложно.

Out of the bottle just tar and tannin. An hour in a decanter and hints of vanilla and cherry in the background show up. Mild tannins but enough for a half decent finish.

Impossible to look passed the Brett funk lingering in the glass that doesn’t blow off. A shame
