Started out more new world than past vintages... but wait for it... that typical Rioja-ness kicks in with air. A lot going on in this wine for the price.

Big fan of this. Still hungover from some shitty Chilean red blend from last night, but this changed my day. Fairly vegetal on the nose which later opened up to black licorice. Great tannins. Despite the time zone difference, I called my mom and let her know about this baller wine. Believe I paid $16 at trader joes to one of their typical " let's be friends though I'll never see you again" cashiers.

This Rioja Riserva was matured in oak unlike the previous one from the same maker. Nose of savoury black cherries. On Palate more body and complexity. Starting to show meaty vegetal characters. Very Good.

This tends to be a solid choice. Usually it's pretty much what I want from the category. Bright cherries, licorice, hints of tobacco.

Red fruit, red fruit, and some more red fruit. Pomegranate, cranberry juice, dried cherry, with a little brett, vanilla and clove. Wonderfully delicious.

Poured into a decanter to prep for dinner. Such a flavour explosion! Approaching deep garnet colour still got that ruby shine. Aroma of blackberry, black cherry, cedar, with hint of cedar, tobacco, cassis, and vanilla. Great balanced acidity and smooth tannin brings all that flavour into its long finish. Such a great quality! Great companion with a grilled ribeye dinner. Drink now or hold another 2~3 years.

Sipping Fine Wine

I had an ‘09 hanging around, aged very well for an inexpensive wine. Deep Ruby with dark edges. Aromas of berry fruit, complex spice, a touch earthy. On the palate, ripe Cherry and blackberry fruits with sweet and peppery spice. Nice approachable tannins that opened up quickly. Good balance and good length. Very Nice.

Dark ruby in color with a wide brick rim.

Nice nose of blueberries, cherries, black currants, wood, barnyard, dark chocolates, coffee, tobacco, cloves, earth, light vanilla, vegetables, tar, forest floor, vinaigrette and black pepper.

Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium acidity long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, oak, vanilla, cloves, tobacco, dark coffee, vegetables, earth, leather, smoke, chocolates, mocha, peppercorn, wet leaves and spices.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a great 9 year old Rioja red, with an earthy nose and fruiter on the palate. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food. Showing lots of complexity with a tangy finish and a nice mouthfeel.

I had it a year ago, and this time it is much better. It is now in its drinking age, and will get better in the next 5 years.

Needs 2 hours to open up properly.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of Meats and cheeses.

14% alcohol by volume.

Ruby in color with a light ruby/orange rim.

Gorgeous nose of blueberries, plums, cherries, sweet raspberries, vanilla, licorice, cloves, vinegrete, herbs, earth, wet rocks, tobacco, bell pepper, Mediterranean spices, peppercorn, chocolates, mocha, coffee and vinegar.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, raspberries, licorice, cloves, spices, cedar, vanilla, bell pepper, cinnamon, coffee, mocha, tobacco, peppercorn and light vegetables.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tart raspberries.

This 6 year old Rioja red, is drinking very nicely now, with nice balance and complexity.
Still young, however, and will be better in 3 to 5 years.

Enjoyable by itself or with food and needs 90 minutes to open up properly.

This 2009 vintage was a hot one, and it shows nicely right here. Much better than the 2007 and 2008 vintages I tried before.

A blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Manuela grapes.

14% alcohol by volume.
