The weekend has started and I have opened the 2015 Marqués de Murrieta Finca Ygay Reserva Rioja. A blend of 80% Tempranillo, 12% Graciano, 6% Mazuelo and 2% Garnacha.

On the nose this is a beautifully complex aroma with black cherry, blackberry, plum, licorice, perfumed notes, violets, spice, vanilla, some oak and earthiness.

O the palate is black cherry, blackberry, plum, star anise, clove, spice, oak, vanilla and earth.

This wine is full bodied silky mouthfeel with high acidity and medium + fine integrated tannins that move wonderfully into a long dark fruit licorice finish. Have a wonderful weekend everyone, we are moving into a deep freeze and snow for the weekend. Please stay safe and healthy and enjoy yourselves. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

The better steak wine over the 2009 Ormes de Pez but, not the more beautiful, elegant wine.

The 2010 Rioja marries the Wagyu Ribcap while showing its Ranchero characteristics.

The palate shows tumble-weed, tannin fruits that are; brambly, ripe, slightly candied; blackberriesblack raspberries, dry, dark cherries with skin, ruby, black plums, very w/ ripe strawberries. Tumbleweed, straw, dark spice, tough leather, clove, sage, dry clay & top soil, crushed rocks, black pepper, dark, berry cola, mint, oak barrel powder, used charcoal with candied florals that are fresh & withering; dark, red, purple & blue. The acidity is top flight. The long finish is well balanced fruit & earth, persisting nicely falling onto earth & dark spices.

Broad and plummy fruit with sour cherry. Soft herbal notes and minerals. Tangy and vivacious still. Excellent.

Bright ruby red color. Aromas of ripe red fruit with floral and spice notes. A traditional Rioja blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. On the palate, the wine was complex with layers of fresh ripe berry flavors with spicy and smoky notes fro new oak wrapped in silky tannins, lingering finish ending with a mineral character, well balanced, great value!

Soured cherry and gnarly fruit with herbs. Cool blooded but there are some slightly scorched and over ripe notes. I think not a great bottle more than a wine that is generally past it’s prime.

Such a beautiful wine...red ripe/dried cherries, blackcherry, soy sauce, leather, smooth tannins, with perfect acid balance and the elegant vanilla and dill to round it out...
