Look at my previous note. Add age. That’s why this is a 9.9. Just the best 19 Auslese I’ve ever had. Masterful. Nervy tropical fruit. Elegant like nothing else. Loooooooong. Why is this not more well known? I did a poor job I guess. Also there is like none.

Markus’ first ever Auslese and wow this is like the R.E.M Murmur of debut Auslesen. Amazing lime zest intensity and massive aromas of slate. Also lime flesh. So clean, clear and ethereal. The slate aromas are some of the cleanest and purest I’ve ever smelled. 2019 in the Mosel is about the sweet wines. Best since 2001 and likely even better. Nose has peach, apricot, key lime pie and so much more. New nuance after new nuance keeps developing. Wait till you all see the price! Also a white pepper, foie gras element develops after time. This is 9.6 nose. Easy. A hint of the clearest botrytis one can imagine. What a palate. Incisive and impossibly complex. So deep, so tense and nervous and truly savory and sweet on the palate. Amazing acidity and length. So clean, pure and balanced. Truly a take your breath away Auslese. It is so filigreed and finesse driven and has a succulence one finds only in the best Auslesen. Drink now through 2050. Brilliant wine. This is a barrel sample. I bet my score goes up in bottle.

After air this gets more honeyed on the nose with even more screaming slate. It’s just so Mosel. But the gamey foie gras character also increases a bit. Man is this killer. Palate gains more lime tension, apparent acid and structure now. Finishes dry and mineral. Great Auslese needs to have elements that overall give a dry impression yet has obvious and apparent sweetness. That back and forth is very necessary for great Auslese. This comes across as dry and sweet at the same time.
