Don’t know if I settled down the third time around or the wine did, but a more focused experience this time. Who knows, maybe three times a charm. An ethereal light to medium body, all balsamic, mushroom notes & wild black currants.

Challenging as not a pretty wine. Give it air- a lot. Still, all tertiary notes though fruit is still strong: varnish, fall leaves, wild small red berries. Definitely a contemplative wine, & imagine only for hardcore fans of Colares region & Ramisco grape.

Nose is a pleasant surprise. Unmistakable age; dusty, but still lots of primary fruit along with a touch of bruised flowers and some va. Palate doesn’t quite match: a little thin mid palate, somewhat harsh acid and stubborn tannins persisting on the dried out finish.
With time and air, this softens and becomes quite a bit more enjoyable.

Decent enough Colares albeit slightly madeirized. Still, the waves of fruit and mineral came through and I thought overall quite expressive.

Lighter in color than the much older 1969, but much more expressive aromatically, dusty, sandy red-fruited aromas, flavors tend toward red-fruit as well, more of an elegant style of Ramisco, long finish, this seems at peak, or close to it (but I have more bottles, so will check in again within a year). Both of these are amazing at 11% ABV!!

Mushrooms and eastern spices on the nose, cranberry and cedar palette. Secondaries definitely have taken over, tannins super smooth.

Nebbioloesque, soft aromatics, acid and mildly oxidized. Feeling priggish.

Funk, brett, very woody, dried tobacco, smoke, again big tannin. Very masculine. Birth year!

Herbal and earthy and elegant. Subtle fruit, mature but not tired. 11% alcohol but not excessively lean
