The 2017 Luke Lambert is gorgeous, showing all of the best qualities of Nebbiolo, while presenting a primary and sun-kissed expression from Down Under.  The color is classic, translucent ruby, as aromas of crushed cherries, strawberries, dusty cedar and wild herbs lift from the glass.  There’s the slightest hint of diesel here, yet this may just be a bit of residual reduction.  It graces the palate with silky textures carrying ripe, yet wonderfully pure Nebbiolo fruit, offset by brisk acids and spice, with slow-mounting tannins tugging at senses. The finish is long, structured, yet fresh, with a coating of fine tannins under an air of sweet inner florals.  I’ll be interested to see how the second half of this bottle performs tomorrow, but even more interested in seeing how it performs after five to ten years in the cellar.  Very Nice.
