2022/5/31-6/1 with ayu karaage, hachiku several ways, niku-dofu, etc. This is my favorite of the lower-priced Léa reds - there’s really nice acidity and flesh, and enough age to be fully open with hints of complexity but still with vibrant fruit. Really good on day 2 as well.

2022/5/26 with pork jowl and shoulder fricassé with new onions and tarragon, peas with ventreche, etc. Sweetly gamy and earthy on the nose. The palate starts a bit thin and tart but recovers some body in an hour or two.

2022 winter. I remember this bottle being one of my favorites from this range - “à point”, open, with lots of flavor and good depth. Let’s see how the re-stock bottles I bought are.

2022/2/6 with Forest-inspired wagyu beef cheek yoshoku curry, butter turmeric rice with apple and jujube and radicchio and tangerine salad. As you might expect, the structure is pretty much resolved and on opening, things seem pretty advanced, with brown spices and leafy undergrowth. But sure enough, with a few hours and some air, round, sweet brambly fruit re-emerges. There are some top notes almost like cut pear or apple. Not every old bottle has to be a trumpet-fanfare Grand Cru Experience(TM) - and considering what those run these days, this is pretty damn good value.
