Last night’s “Evening With Krug” event, where they officially released their 2006 vintage. Beautiful evening with many different Krug offerings paired with a delicious meal.

This is now my second time having the 167 in the last two months, and my impression is consistent. This has a base of the 2011 vintage, and seems to show the coldness of that vintage as this is quite light...doesn’t flex Krug’s powerful and rich profile. Stone fruits, wet rock, chalky limestone and yeast picking up the longer it’s in the glass. Very balanced and down the middle.

Very bright and vigorous. Lemon and tart minerality. Very pretty and bracing. Not huge weight. With time in glass whiffs of oyster shells and salinity. Very young still, but real promise

2011 base. Very much in the house style but if I had to nitpick this would be a person who is 5-6 pounds overweight

Krug’s NV Grande Cuvée 167ème Edition is positively brilliant. Chef de Caves Eric Lebel and his team have always put tremendous emphasis on the craft of blending. Never has that discipline been more critical than here, with the 167, which is based on 2011, one of the most challenging harvests in Champagne in many years. Brisk and racy in the glass, the 167 is laced with a range of lemon peel, baked apple, brioche and floral notes. Readers should plan on giving the 167 at least a few years in bottle, as it is presently tightly wound and not at all expressive. The flavors are beautifully articulated. In many releases, the Grande Cuvée is richer and more overt. The 167, on the other hand, is airy, weightless and sublime. Most importantly, it is an unqualified success. This release is based on 2011, with reserve wines back to 1995. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2019)

This has terrific balance and vivacity. Clear, and intense. Very young and dynamic. Base year 2011

Off the Crownshy NYC list, this came across as elegant, fruity, structured, and although young it had really nice complexity that grew with air. Some yeast and hazelnut notes complemented a citrus character. Really nice.

Perfect bubbly with caviar for V-day. This is a base 2011 vintage comprised of over 200 different wines dating back to 1995. Amazing blend with toasted notes, full bodied and lovely bubbles. Wife’s favorite bubbly

1st anniversary champagne and caviar. My first bottle of Krug and it was spot on. Light on its feet with more toasted brioche notes as it opened up. Can I drink another bottle now please?
