Another baffling blind tasting from Sue Bell. Could have sworn these 2 Chenin Blancs were Chardonnays. More ripe and full bodied than I’m used to with Chenin which I often associate with ripe apple but this was more stone fruit. A delicious drink.

This time last week it was #DrinkChenin Day and we celebrated in the best way possible - with not 1, but 2 bottles of Aged Chenin Blanc from John Kosovich Wines in the Swan Valley 🙌

We already had the 2012 in the wine fridge, which I picked up on my Perth trip last year and the 2013 was from a recent order of a mixed pack of CB’s sold through the Vino Volta website.

It was one of those tastings where each time I had a swirl, I was like “I definitely prefer the 20__ vintage” 😂 So it’s safe to say both went down a treat. And I reckon both are still holding up so well that they’ll keep for longer too!

2012:
It’s a clear golden shade in the glass with melon, lemon honey and fresh minerality coming through on the nose with a sprinkling of sea salt. In the mouth it’s super smooth with notes of apples 🍎, pears 🍐 and citrus zest. I also reckon there’s some feijoa on the finish. YUM!

2013:
It’s a sunshine ☀️ gold colour in the glass. There’s that fresh minerality coming through on the nose alongside cut apples and sweet timber. In the mouth there’s fresh lime with toasted apple crumble that carries through to a nice lip-licking long finish. Delish!

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

I’m a sucker for aged Chenin Blanc, especially when it’s from John Kosovich Wines in Perth’s Swan Valley 💕

I was kindly sent this sample bottle of their 2014 Bottle Aged Reserve (thank you!) and I enjoyed it as I made my annual family’s traditional Christmas 🎄 cookies 🍪

Chenin Blanc is a white wine grape originally from France. It can be made into a still or sparkling wines alongside being dry, off-dry or even made into dessert wine. It’s naturally high acidity makes it a very versatile grape, much like Chardonnay.

The Swan Valley excels at making absolutely delicious Chenin. And this 2014 is drinking incredibly beautifully right now 👌

In the glass it’s a sunny golden colour with notes of stewed stonefruit, quince and refreshing lemon and lime citrus. In the mouth it is fresh, juicy and elegantly aged. The acidity is fantastic and suggests it’ll continue to be enjoyed over the coming years. GORGEOUS 🥰

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

I don’t think I can visit John Kosovich in the Swan Valley without walking out with a bottle of their aged Chenin Blanc. This 2011 is their latest release and it’s drinking beautifully. At $35 a bottle, it’s worth every cent!

On the eye it’s an enticing subtle golden yellow colour. On the nose there’s citrus and orchard fruits with a hint of florals and herbs alongside some crisp minerality. In the mouth you’d never guess it’s age since it’s so darn fresh. It’s wonderfully flavoursome and bloody tasty if you ask me!

Have you tried an aged Chenin Blanc from the Swan Valley? If not you should! I picked up this 2010 Chenin at the John Kosovich cellar door for about $35 - I was immediately in love with the freshness and depth of flavour.

On the eye it's a vibrant creamy yellow with toasted fruit, herb 🌿 and florals on the nose. It's super flavoursome on the palate with as I mention a lovely freshness with citrus acidity balanced by creamy fruits. It's definitely a foodie wine that goes well with strong cheese so we found it with it matching the Stilton cheese we were eating perfectly 👌
