See previous note from a year ago. White florals citrus aromas and a touch of talc. Interestingly the kerosene aromas from the previous tasting seem to have diminished somewhat. The palate has medium plus intensity and excellent length. Certainly The Florita is one of the more famous vineyards in Australia for Riesling where John Vickery crafted excellent long living Rieslings under the Leo Buring label decades ago. I remember having some amazing 1973 Leo Buring DWC Rieslings in the 1980s.

Nov 10th, 2022The chosen white wine for the Downs Club Magnum dinner This was a cellar release from Jim Barry recently purchased by the Club. Noticeable Kerosene aromas. Lime and mineral on the palate developing toasty maturity. A long life ahead coming from magnum. The Florita vineyard was famous in the 70s and 80s for the brilliant long lived Riesling made by John Vickery for the Leo Buring label. This wine given 98 points by James Halliday.

Dec 8th, 2021Kerosene aromas - some toast. Lovely mature Clare Valley Riesling. Palate has filled out with the influence of citrus diminishing and stone fruit increasing - under ripe peach. Nearly up to the standard of past Rieslings from the storied Florita Vineyard where legendary Rieslings were made for Leo Buring by John Vickery back in the 1970s. Next day strong citrus flavours - remarkably young for a 9 year old Riesling. Will go for at least another 6 years.

I’ve enjoyed the 09, 13 and now the 17.
This wine is an outstanding ambassador for Clare Valley Riesling.
