Columbia County drinking: The drinkers consensus was it resembled a ‘baby Etna’. Old Pais vines grown in volcanic soil, Chilean version.

Like picking up a cute Chilean Chihuahua & finding you have a German Shepard on hand: on opening all disjointed & astringent, like many a 14$ wine is. But behold, several minutes later in glass & the pedigree begins to show: a firm light-medium body, medium + acidity, a tannic structure- think Etna, but meaner (the Shepard)-gorgeous black & dark red fruits, with that volcanic mineral undertow. From old, ungrafted Pais vines. Like really old, pre- phylloxera. A little chill works here too. Pais? Chile? Not your cute pop ‘n pour, just give it that mini decant & ye shall see the light.

Fragrant, floral, low alcohol, cherries and rose petals, but with a definite mineral structure, almost smoky finish. Unexpected and fascinating Chilean wine! (Also totally a coincidence that I pulled something called “Bravos” for GoT season premier)

Quite good, light at 12.5% but stood up to pizza. Would drink again. Helen’s.

Really liked this one, it got smoother and more flavorful with a decant. Really versatile wine. From DecantSF

Really nice. Leather, dark cherries, savory and very very dry, but with a pleasant mouthfeel. This is a funky red.

Delicious and interstellar light red. Must have been popular as was Cookshop’s last bottle.
