The owners of Hobel Wines came to town and put on a nice tasting, while also detailing their history. Very nice people and wines. They make two wines, both Cabernets from Calistoga. TRB is the winemaker.

En mag. 8-9yrs old and drinking well. Couldn’t tell if it was tired or just needed more of a decant. Acidity had really mellowed out, fruit was very pure and ripe (raspberries and blackberries) and it was beginning to channel some leather and clay notes.

En mag. This was tied (with the ‘16 Grain) for my WOTN. Pencil shavings, dark and dense core of black cherry, plum and dark chocolate. Velvet like texture with well integrated tannins.

First impression was Ok but this was SO much better after having been open for a day meaning I should've decanted. This was quite nice with pronounced fruit, soft tannins and a medium length finish.

3 people found it helpfulDec 30th, 2015Even after being opened for 24 hours this still was quite oaky and tannic. Just needs some more time in bottle. I loved prior vintages of this wine so hoping some rest in bottle will be beneficial.
