Super tight. Needs air. Then nose delivers cherry/pomegranate, nose tingling rock dust, and a little wet earth. Fresh, focused, cherry and rock dusted tannins. This is Hanzell's entry level wine but its tight age-worthy structure clearly shows its family genealogy.

A nose of candied cherry and raspberry is complimented on the palate with concentrated, savory red fruits and superbly integrated oak. Pricey, but polished.

2013: Fresh, straightforward approach. Crisp, without distraction. Nice personality, yet not a lot of depth. A wine to enjoy, and a safe harbor on any wine list. Ultimately, I'd rather enjoy a conversation with this wine in the background, than feel compelled to discuss another chardonnay that was too this or too that. Balanced and reliable.

I was excited to try this pinot after seeing how highly rated it is and reading the comments, but unfortunately it was not for us at all. It was very vinegary. We thought maybe after it opened up that it would improve and even tried pairing it with food, but nothing changed the flavor. We couldn't even drink it.
