Soft creamy tannins. Still has a lot of big fruit...tart cherry, cola spice, still get woody tannins and vanilla, which I'm assuming is from oak. I am enjoying it!

Decided to see how some of the older wines in the cellar were faring...and was pleasantly surprised by this 1997 Grgich Hills cab. Still retaining a nice red-garnet color, the nose is classic CA cabernet. Much more fruit prevalent than I was expecting, the wine has aromas of dried cassis, leather, allspice, and hints of tar. Still well balanced on the palate, with impressive persistence through the mid-palate. The finish was a little drying, but for a nearly 19-year-old CA cab, this is pretty impressive stuff!

Feb 29th, 2016Still some fruit in this well aged Napa cab. After decanting for about 1 hour this was quite pleasant. It wasn't as peppery and lacked some of the upfront attack expected, probably due to its extended age, but it was still a solid and enjoyable, well aged Cabernet.

Very unassuming at first. Tastes like an average everyday cab. It really shines after opening up for hours. Great fruit and nice mellow tannins.
