Jan 18th, 2024Blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot & 4% Cabernet Franc, deep Ruby with aromas of rich berry fruit, floral and slight spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and blueberry with floral spice, warm vanilla oak and earthy cinnamon. Fine soft tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice, vanilla oak and soft earthy notes, will still develop. A nice fillet mignon with mushroom gravy will go well.

Drinking beautifully. Has aged with grace. I would say at its prime now. Great balance of fruit and secondary aromas. Oak has integrated and alcohol and acidity is spot on.

Jan 8th, 2018Mike Grgich 1st gained international recognition at the celebrated "Paris Tasting" of '76 where a panel of eminent French judges were shocked they chose Mike’s '73 Montelena Chard as the finest white wine in the world! A blend including 12% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot & 4% Cabernet Franc, rich berry fruit aromas, slight menthol kick. On the palate blackberry & cherry, bits of cacao and cinnamon, soft fine tannins. Lingering finish ending with soft oaky notes. Was tight at tasting but opened up, needs more time.
