Saw an ‘06 on a wine list and grabbed this 12 year-old beauty. Mike Grgich 1st gained international recognition at the celebrated "Paris Tasting" of '76 where a panel of eminent French judges were shocked they chose Mike’s '73 Montelena Chard as the finest white wine in the world! Elegant, rich berry fruit aromas, licorice notes. On the palate blackberry & cherry, bits of cacao and cinnamon, soft fine tannins. Lingering finish ending with soft oaky notes. Opened quickly and drank beautifully.

Clear dark Ruby color and full bodied with acid. Clean medium intensity nose with dark berry, oak and alcohol notes. Restrained dark berry, earth and tar notes on the palate leading to a smooth peppery finish with fine tannins. Still a big delicious Cabernet, but most likely close to the ends of it's best drinking window, as the fruit notes are receding. Began opening up after a 60 minute decant.

Deep garnet red with a touch of ruby. Lovely and aged nose with forest floor, mushrooms, a touch savory, earthiness, dark plums and a touch of crushed gravel. Well rounded and medium tannins (6/10). Rich with some age, layers of dark plums, bark, and a touch of gravel. Beautifully integrated and long finish. Drink till 2023.

If anyone knows Zinfandel it's Mike Grgich. A pretty b straight down the middle interpretation. Not flashy, just solid.

Clear deep ruby color with a fuchsia rim. The wine yields aromas of cassis, black and red cherry, and a whiff of herbs above bass notes of coffee. It smells like deep velvet. On the palate it's nimble and lithe, with supple savory dark fruits and beautifully ripe tannins lingering beneath brilliant acidity. The finish is bitter, like well-made coffee. Overall this wine feels spirited, both elegant and unencumbered.
