Inky garnet purple in the glass. Nose is shy on opening but opens up to dark purple fruit compote. Echoed on the huge-bodied palate with dried fruit notes (naturally) and medium tannins that come through on the long, dark finish. Medium minus acidity along the lines of an Amarone (again, naturally… it’s a great, less costly alternative), limiting its food choices but they’re there. Try it with a heavy pizza or pasta dish, or osso bucco. Cigar smokers might enjoy this with a Churchill.
