Honey, melons, floral, mineral, canned pears. Broad, a bit sweet, lower acidity.

Franz Hirtzberger Gruener Veltliner 'Honivogl' Smaragd 2008 enjoyed from a Magum bottle. Beautiful honeyed nose with notes of beeswax and sweet lemon, touch of sweetness on the attack. Lovely poise and concentration.

Lovely is the exactly right word for this wine.

Was once again scolded by my spouse for only ever wanting white wine, no matter what we're having for dinner. Was vindicated by serving this wine with hanger steak and chimichurri, and it "worked". She swooned and deemed me heroic, so I declined to mention that I only picked it because we're out of Muscadet, which is what I was really in the mood for.

Revelatory. Complex and long. Typical white pepper but now with hammered gold.

Everything is beginning to knit together in this wine, although its power outweighs its grace at this stage.

Big, fat and rich in all the tastiest of ways. Even better the next day left open without the cork.
