Bramble, earth, spice, crushed black rocks, a reductive edge adds some meaty savoriness. Just the right amount of juice, silken tannin yet that distinctive “rusticity” one finds in Fixin. Bonus points for that textural juxtaposition.

This is a terrific value for a burgundy. The juice is so clean, with great acidity. I had the ‘14 earlier and you could tell this was a little younger/brighter. A real treat. About $45.

A long week of tax busy season and a bad sinus infection call for one of my favorites. Amélie Berthaut’s wines take me back to the week I spent in Lyon a few summers ago. That’s where I first learned about her exquisite lineup of wines. To me, this is a fantastic bridge between California Pinot and Burgundy.

On the nose, I get notes that I find myself associating with California Pinots such as cherry cola, strawberries, raspberries, rose petals, and just a slight amount of oak. This is definitely more of a mid weight Burgundy with a silky texture and an almost of a buttery feel to it. The finish brings out the earthiness of Burgundian wines that I love. It definitely has more of a concentrated feel but still has a little minerality to it.
