The 2014 Domaine de Chevalier has always been an impressive wine for the vintage. This has a superb bouquet with blackberry, graphite, sea spray and pressed roses, which are very well-defined and classy. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, fine tannins, a keen line of acidity, fresh with white pepper and allspice towards the harmonious and precise finish. This is a Pessac-Léognan ratcheting through the gears - recommended. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2024)

2014 vintage. This is the red. 65% Cab Sauv, 30% Merlot, 5% PV. Nose opened up after 45 mins with some sea salt, allspice, currant and cherry notes. Medium to medium+ body. Fairly plushy and cushioned on the finish. Tannins are there if you want ‘em but that Petit Verdot really steals the show at the end. A modicum of mint + baking chocolate make an appearance as well. Still clinging to a small paunch of baby fat which should fall off in another two years. The tumblers are clicking but the combination isn’t totally there just yet. Give it another 3-4 years but pretty dayum delish right now.

2014 vintage. Decanted with trace of sed. A little flat. Not corked or obviously abused but missing that Chevalier love. Expected (and have always received) more. Maybe in a period of transition. 12.15.23.

2014 vintage. This is the red. Still a little salty and pruny. Light-medium/medium body. Good concentration in the frontal palate. Baby fat almost 100% gonzo and deliciously thinning out on the finish. Last tasted 1.28.2022.

2014 vintage. This is the red. Cinnamon, allspice, herbs, sea salt/brine in the nose. An doppelgänger Bandol-light body. A touch riper mid-palate than expected. Previous baby fat gonzo. Green peppercorn also present in the nose but a slight zinc/iodine flavor on the finish shortly after opening. Expecting that to blow off/roll away…it wasn’t there a few months ago. Seemingly in transition but still delicious. If I weren’t so lazy at home, woulda decanted. Lazy tho. Judge not...
