Not knowing what to expect, as I've never had champagne this old, I was incredibly surprised by the complexity and the nuance of this wine. While there was considerable seepage, the bottle still possessed great bubbles that were lean and crisp. A burnt caramel and strawberry note was pervasive; the finish was thin--perhaps the product of its cellaring. This is a wine I'll remember forever, if not for its amazing rarity and its eye-opening introduction to aged champagne.
