Lovely modern robust deep and intense Cabernet Franc from
California's knights Valley. Deep dark color almost black, nose a bit sweet with loads of licorice, black cherries, plums, after eight mint chocolate, coffee and plums, full rich body , with round soft tannins, nice acidity, chewy and intense. Balanced and charming. Long yummy finish. Not a classical CF but a very tasty one. My score 91, drink to 2017. A lovely discovery.

Without question the best cabernet franc I’ve ever had from California, this is unfortunately the last bottle I have. I don’t know what happened in 2007, but Gerhard made a spectacular cab franc that has no parallel before or since (of course, the winery no longer exists - at least not in any recognizable form - but you get my meaning). Still drinking incredibly well, this was a singular achievement from what always was a WAY underrated winery.

May 7th, 2021So, I’m of the opinion that Gerhard Reisacher’s sweet spot is Cabernet Franc. This 2009 isn’t quite as good as his 2007 - that is the best 100% cab franc I’ve ever had - but this is damn close. No trace of the bell pepper you typically get from people picking the fruit too early, this is a terrific wine with notes of something reminiscent of roasted chipotle pepper, black pepper, and currant. Medium-to-full bodied palate with a silky, mouthfilling feel leading to a lingering finish. This is nothing like a cab franc from The Loire - pure California - but a terrific wine nonetheless. Winemakers would do well to take lessons from Gerhart on how to handle this varietal.

Starting to fade but still enjoyed it! Very dense- more than I expected but good balance even if a little past its prime.
