This is the Rioja Blanco Reserva. It’s got a fair amount of oak influence, which is OK, because it’s subtle and, to be frank, the character of the fruit here is a little weak, so the oak is the most interesting part. (Full disclosure, I’m not a huge fan of Spanish white varietals.) But overall, it’s very nicely balanced and has a little bit of complexity on the palate.

Cherry, chocolate and blackberry, good acid with a vanilla sweetness and dark roast quality. An oaky style, but plenty of quality for the dollar.

Cocoa powder, vanilla and spiced plum on the nose. Well balanced tannin, coffee and plum in the mouth. Benchmark Rioja, hard to fault, but if you were being critical - no wow factor.

Served at a drinks party for the family ahead of my sister's wedding. This Rioja was an appropriate choice as her husband to be spent some time in Spain has a student. Tasty and approachable, with good backbone yet surprisingly supple. That's how she describes him. The wine was also tasty.

It was a decent wine. Drinkable. The WS 93 rating is questionable. Bought from Costco.

A great introduction to classic style. Balsamic, sweet N sour, black berry jam & tart red fruits (cranberry, cherry) . Cedar, roasted coconut, vanilla bean. Sweaty sock, old leather purse.

2010. Modern profile. Think bright red fruit, not oak. Steady acid, mild tannins, easy finish. Versatile for sure. 13.5%abv. $29.

So fresh , super grippy. God bless CVNE. 2012. Gave it a short (1hr) decant, which Id like to think tempered its grapey-ness.
