Friend asks if winemaker buddy can join dinner. You say of course. Winemaker buddy (real name Peter-Alan Finlayson) brings his HOLY EPIC wines. I don't know if a South African chard usually tastes like Meursault and Chablis's love child, but this sure does. And I'm totally into it. Thank you friend (real name @Julia van der Vink).

The Finlayson boys know how to make a great Chardonnay. This 2013 has a great nose of stone fruit and pineapple. Drinks softly and gently - nothing disturbing in this wine. Lacks a bit of length and complexity to be at the very top but still very, very nice.

Crystallum, a premium brand by the Finlayssons. The clay shales chard from Hemel-en-Aarde is a great example of exactly what we want to see from South Africa. An athletic but well defined Chardonnay with plenty of finesse. Great quality fruit and smart winemaking in terms of oak and MLF is bringing an intense, layered and complex wine. An Intense and fresh palate with a long finish. Did you say Burgundy? If so I am all ears

This is a great SA Chardonnay, the whole picture is there of what a wine lover can aspect from Chardonnay, not a heavyweight build wine bin elegance and finesse with smooth integrated wood from the barrel
