2005- really nice, solid dark fruit still, light meaty and smoky notes. A little soft but very enjoyable.

On first pour, a dense midnight color wine that doesn't give much up on the nose. A savory Syrah that has more of the dark fruit and brush than the aromatics associated with the northern Rhone. Still has plenty of grippy tannins, and good acidity... could probably use a few more years.

The nose started out almost gamay like... Very fruity banana-bubble gum. The palate turned into rich red fruit then herbaceous, then wet leaves and spice box. Ended miles ahead of where it began.

Delicious lush blackberry and spice notes- dried bay laurel and slate. Smooth tannins and very bright finish.

Inky with aromas of bacon, anise, and smoke over dark fruit. This is before Wells Guthrie's epiphany on producing less extracted wines and picking his grapes earlier. The Hawks Butte fruit is killer and keeps this from being too outsized. Grippy tannins help the flavors last and this wine will cellar comfortably for another 8 years. Don't be afraid to drink it now!

Super fantastic 07 Syrah from Mendocino. Has not lost a step whatsoever but has gained a lot in terms of complexity. Beautiful aromas of sage, tar, candied black cherry and espresso. Soft mod palate and long long finish
