Too young, obviously, but it called to me from the cellar! Gorgeous layers - individuals now, but I’m guessing will integrate together beautifully with more bottle age. Big dense black fruit leads the nose, whole the palette brings a great meaty smoky quality. There’s already a satisfying savoriness there I can’t wait to check in again 10 years or so. That special energy and beautiful texture I expect from Colgin is there in spades. Bottle 2 waits patiently!

Though not the same as it was pre-COVID -19, a handful of us were able to gather (while keeping our distance) to celebrate being back together and opened some fun wines to share. Wine is always better with good company.

My second time with this wine in the last year. Amongst the Cayuse and Hor Categorie, the sweetness here was easy to pick up, but it was supremely balanced. This is a marriage of Napa Syrah and WA/OR Syrah...it has the sweet compote-like dark fruits as well as melted dark chocolate, but it channels a savory bacon fat and roasted herb character toward the finish. Iron fist in a velvet glove right now...simply outstanding. Thanks for opening

Annual guys WTF Christmas party with spouses. Lots of great wine. I’ll post my highlights with pics I got.

Absolutely delicious and in the zone! So much depth and complexity on the nose and palate. Smoked brisket and bacon fat, small hint of olive tapenade, baked mixed berry pie, and sandalwood jump from the glass. Didn’t want to put it down! Richly textured on the palate with sweet smoke, espresso, dark cocoa, blueberries, blackberries, and savory peppercorn. So much going on here. Thanks

Expected more...leaner and less density than other vintages. Bacon fat and blue fruits...

Savory but with dense black fruit, mushroom and potting soil and laced with cocoa and mocha. Warm baking spice and sun tan lotion when the bottle first pops from small new oak. Drinking beautifully now.

A stellar pull from @Dan Fitzgerald ! It has so much going on and it’s all harmonious. Dark chocolate drizzled raspberries and black cherries, smoked brisket and bacon fat and just a touch of funk. It was dense all the way through but had plenty of acidity to keep it from being flabby. Savory and mineral driven towards the finish. This has plenty of life but is in a wonderful drinking window.

One of our New Years eve wines...powerful yet elegant. It needs a 1-2 hour decant.

Incredibly complex, rich and layered, notes of violets, black raspberry, blackberry, balsamic, savory herbs and a lingering finish
