I love a gift pack which comes with wine and matching snacks! I received this as a Christmas gift from Cellarmasters (thank you Mira & team 😘).

Inside the gift box was a bottle of Chris Ringland Sealed 2016 Barossa Shiraz alongside; Bryon Bay cookies (soooo good!), Maggie Beer Fig & Fennel Paste, Beerenberg tomato chutney and crackers. Out of all the elements, the wine went superbly with the paste 😋

Winemaker Chris has an interesting background that all started in little old New Zealand (woohoo go the Kiwis!). Prior to starting his own label, he worked at Rockford in the Barossa for 15 years and he has developed Nebbiolo and Carigan projects ʻSolitaʼ. Read more on his website: https://chrisringland.com

Now let’s get to what the wine was like !

The wine is a black-red shade in the glass. It’s a very aromatic wine which conjured up thoughts of red cherries, wild strawberries, baking spice and fruit leather. It’s rich on the palate yet is full of smooth jammy fruits. Not a bad way to spend a Friday arvo 😜

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

His Three Rivers Shiraz is beyond my pay grade, so when I spotted this bottle while in Australia at the price of around $20, I decided to brought it back to the US. A big, powerful and jammy Shiraz that packs tons of blacks and blue fruits with incense, tobacco, mint, chocolate, and vanilla. Vibrant and broad, with sweet tasty tannins. But it’s the untamed heat at the end that’s just too much for me.

Chris is also the wine maker for Alto Moncayo and El Nido, 2 of the hottest Spanish Bodegas.
