Domaine de Mondot belonged to Father de Seze, who had the present-day chateau built in 1745. Very much taken by the estate, Raymond Troplong purchased it in 1850 and constituted the vineyard as we know it today. Tasted ‘14 & ‘15. A blend of 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, dark red with black fruit aromas and exotic spice. On the palate cherry and plum with oak, coffee and pepper spice. Tannins still big, but calmed a bit since I last tasted in Apr 2017, plenty of room to run. Tasting Sample.

First red wine of the tasting and third wine in flight one for the Bordeaux Master's Class at Heart's Delight.

Deep opaque ruby red. Dark fruity nose with black currants and black cherries. Strong earthiness and stoney note undertones. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and medium bodied. Sweet spices and dusty on the front end. Followed by a touch of dark cocoa and herbal notes such as eucalyptus. Slatey long finish. Drink till 2032.

Big tannins need some time for this beauty to develop for the long term, but it's enjoyable now.

2014 vintage. Tight. Big. Medium-heavy body. Filled with rhubarb, dark cherry pie flavors, cocoa powder, teriyaki sauce and plum. Tannic structure suggesting a 6-8 hour decant to agitate or 15-20 years before approaching. 9.1.23.

I know this was far far too young but it was a "mistake" delivered to me and I'm clearing space in my cellar. Nose and palate muted but you're able to get a beautiful mix of plums, dark cherries, and chocolate. Tannins were fine and powdery. Feel guilty but having never had this I can now happily buy.
