It's time for some Merlot on this#MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

This 23-year-old Merlot based Bordeaux is still drinking very nicely.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Very dry on the palate with a nice mouthfeel.

Showing black plums, cooked cherries, oak, herbs, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco leaf, peppercorn, pencil lead, dark coffee, dark chocolates, earth and wet leaves.

Medium plus in length on the finish, with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty wine from the great 2000 vintage in Bordeaux. Will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 to 10 years.

Showing nice complexity, soft and smooth.

Lost some of the fruits by now, but still very enjoyable by itself, and even better with food.

13% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$200.

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Nice fresh nose of blueberries, cherries, black currants, oak, licorice, plums, sweet spice, earth, herbs, peppercorn, pencil lead, dark coffee and dark chocolates.

Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 22 year old, from the great 2000 vintage, is drinking very nicely now. Feels very young, and has a lot of years in it.

Nicely balanced with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Spicy and entertaining.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

I had it blind, and called it correctly including the Vintage, which only shows that it is very typical as one might expect it to be.

Good by itself or with food. Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime.

13% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Cherry cola dust, moth ball, pink peppercorn, chocolate pudding skin, pipe tobacco, smoky ancho chile, leathery cherries. Palate is round, chewy and tart like red vines licorice with a little bit of spice. Chalky with lots of lingering perfumy florals.

There is something to be said about buying and holding. Just an average Bordeaux from a good vintage just sitting around for 20 years waiting to be tasted. The tannins washed away revealing a subtle and sexy wine with spicy beauty. This is the reason why I buy I hold. It usually works in my favor

Nice bottle for $50.00, decant an hour so & you’re set
Info I found on the dark web as follows,

This property possesses 16 hectares of vines (60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc) and was purchased in 1978 by Comte Léo de Malet Roquefort, the owner of Château La Gaffelière. In June 2011 it was acquired by the Clarence Dillon group, which also owns Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. Its new owner decided to rename the property, starting with the 2011 vintage. Château Tertre Daugay, the fifth cru classé to be acquired by the Clarence Dillon group, became Château Quintus. The property is located on a high promontory that forms the edge of the Saint Emilion plateau. It commands a panoramic view far into the distance of the surrounding villages and the Dordogne Valley. It is here that, since time immemorial, a watchtower has stood to guard the village of Saint Emilion. The exceptional microclimate is due to the area's diversity in terms of soil, slopes and orientation. Consequently, it comes as no surprise that in 1844 and 1848 the wine was among the 14 most sought-after and expensive in Saint Emilion. For nearly a century, Bordeaux et ses Vins, the standard reference work produced by Cocks and Féret, listed the property as a Saint Emilion Premier Cru. The property was also one of the prestigious vineyards in Saint Emilion to win a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1867.
