The great 2005 vintage. Power and structure, rich black fruits, pencil shavings, saddle leather, tobacco and spices. Finishes with exceptional length and complexity. A bottle that can be enjoyed thoroughly now or age for decades. A terrific treat at Tak Room.

The Montrose group were the most disappointing of this tasting, but it is known that they did not put their best foot forward in 2005, and even somewhat in 2000 as both showed some balance issues that showed more heat and medicinal than power and harmony as one would expect from this storied chateau.

Impossibly dense. Generous, mouth-filling tannins. With air, the ripe black fruit emerges, but this is equally driven by graphite, smoke, black pepper, and some savory development. Obviously built for the long haul, but starting to strut its stuff. 375 mL

Still has a long way to go, but harm in checking in now with some decanting. Dense dark berry and black cherry, firm earth, bit of vanilla. Look forward to trying again in 10+ years.
