While the trend nowadays is for lighter bodied and colored roses, there’s nothing more satisfying than an intense, richly flavored and colored Tavel. Especially from a great producer. An extra kick of ripeness from the warm southern Rhône helps too.

Brilliant orange-pink. Pungent red currant, cherry and blood orange aromas, along with suggestions of lavender and chalky minerals. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering red berry and bitter cherry flavors that are supported by a spine of juicy acidity. Marries power to finesse with a smooth hand and finishes very long and sappy; a late floral nuance adds a grace note. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, June 2018)
