Château Daugay
St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend
Sunday night and went to my wine room for a Bordeaux to top off the weekend. Tonight's wine is the 2010 Château Daugay 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc.
The aromas I am getting are pungent dark fruits that seem to be on the over cooked side. There is black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, leather, licorice, tar and dark rich soils.
On the palate I am getting the dark fruit again, black cherry, black raspberry, green bell pepper, black currant, leather, black licorice and dark soils.
This wine is full bodied that has a smooth and supple mouth feel with medium + acidity and medium + grippy sandy tannins that lead right to a long finish that is filled with dark fruits. We are about to embark on a new week and I ask that you be safe and have a wonderful week. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Young but promising. Exclusive to Spec's unfortunately. Drank with the owner which was extra special (also owns Chateau Angelus).

Mar 22nd, 2018Ripe red plum, cassis, red raspberry. Quite a bit of structure. Clove spiciness points toward some new oak usage. Earthy in an inorganic way - iron, graphite. Menthol on the palate. Beautiful layers.

Red fruit, touches of floral notes, leafy notes, earthy notes(leaf litter, earth), woodsy, some mineral notes.
Attack is round, but with good acids. Red fruits, some florals, starting secondary development. from half bottle. 2008

Primary, dark red fruit, almost jammy, red florals. Bright acids.
This is pretty Bordeaux.
Great attack, good structure a great cellar stuffer. 2011

Rich mocha and brown earth brown sugar blueberry cumin peppermint pattie and cedar cigar box aromas lead to a medium to light mouthfeel buoyed by solid acidity. Holly leaf, dusty oak and cinnamon pointedly acquiesce into a steak and tar, graphite and red currant concave tartness, with notes of burnt citrus. Slightly abrupt finish. A lot to appreciate despite its lopsided-ness, and unusually approachable initial richness.

Oct 2nd, 2014NOSE: very staid .. whiff of vinegar … black raspberry … hay … mild black tea….dried cherry,
TASTE: good! Dried raspberry, leaves, tea … earth … savoury herbs like thyme and oregano … forest floor (pine, etc)… pomegranate (dried pomegranate, if there is such a thing). I tried a much younger version of this (2012) and thought it was past its prime - but this has aged very nicely indeed! A hair anonymous, yet delicious - still has some fruit. Really wish I’d bought more now. 93.

Jul 23rd, 2022looks a little older (as it is).
NOSE: mild mushroom, leaves, pencil, a fruity-and-floral quality I can’t quit pin down, very mild licorice. Oregano. A little crayon/wax. Definitely some home-down European yeastiness, almost Italian rather than French (perhaps not the best way to describe it, but that’s how I think about it). Spice. Red cherry.
TASTE: very subtle, a little anonymous for me. Medium weight. Tea and spices; muted peppercorn. Cedar. Earth. Anise on the finish. Well made, elegant, but forgettable. Might be a little too old. 89.
