What a superb wine is this 2003 Ch. Arnauld from the Haut-Médoc, located between Margaux and Saint Julien. For its age and considering the difficulty of the vintage, this is a very accomplished Bordeaux and goes down as a highlight of the year for me.
The nose is overtly spicy, with scents of clove and orange bitters among the dark cherry fruit. The palate is full of vigour, featuring tart cherry, cedar, graphite, a touch of vanilla and plentiful acidity. Even the fine grained tannins are well placed in this eighteen year old wine. Impressive stuff.
