A 4€ Cote du Rhone villages? I couldn’t resist. Nose opens with tart cherry and blackberry, herbs, dried leaves, stewed fruit, and a little sour funk. Complex. On the palate things even out into a gorgeous, multilayered wine. Still getting blackberry and cherry notes but sweeter, and the herbs and leaves are a background note. The alcohol is present but balanced, giving a bit of bite to the spicy Syrah characteristics. The finish is medium, mellow and leaves you with more fruit than funk. Fabulous value and lovely Cotes du Rhone. Would buy again.
