What a smokey, developed wine! Aromatic with lots of aged character like smoke, ash, coffee, and dried blackcurrant and cherry fruit character. This bottle seemed a little over the hill, but still was delicious.

Jul 6th, 2016The Capezzana Villa always shows a graceful blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet character for me, and this was the perfect bottle to go with Ribollita made from a recipe sent by our Tuscan hosts since we were just at Capezzana not so long ago. A mix of blackberry and sour cherry fruit, with leather, fennel seed, and potting soil savoriness showing the wine's development with a black tea spice and bitterness on the finish, this wine is in a great place. There are still plenty of velvety tannins holding on--I'm curious what even more time will do.

Nov 15th, 2015My last bottle from the 2005 vintage. Thought I should drink it before it passed its peak. No risk of that. Still youthful and full of dark fruitiness and sturdy tannins. A favorite.
